1954 Cadillac Coupe

VIN 546216714

Description

This 1954 Cadillac Coupe Deville was purchase in 1998 at the Imperial Palaca Auction in Las Vegas. It was originally a Western car that had been in storage for 20 years, then cosmetically restored several years ago. It received new paint, chrome and upholstery and a continental kit was added. It was then used primarily as a “parade car” before finally going up at auction.

It has been mechanically maintained and in heated storage since we bought it. It is a practical driver that appears mechanically original and runs very well. The odometer shows 82k miles which we believe is accurate. We have too many Cadillac’s in the collection and this one needs an appreciative new owner.

The body is almost rust-free and the only evidence of patching is the spare tire well in the trunk. There is some rust perforation at the extreme front of the foot wells, but the rest of the floor boards appear solid. It has been repainted in red lacquer with a few scratches that have been touched up. The chrome is presentable but there are scratches on the Front bumper. The interior has been re-upholstered in red and white and looks very nice, but we don’t know if it is “correct” for this model. The gauges, lights and power windows all work, but the heater doesn’t.

The 331 cubic inch 4-Barrel v8 is original and to be honest it looks it. The engine compartment could use some cleaning and detailing. That said, it starts and runs exceptionally well for a 53 year old car, the 12 volt electrical system contributes a lot to this. The 4 speed Hydramatic transmission works properly and there are a few minor drips, but no major leaks. A new fuel pump and a rebuilt power brake booster were recently installed.

The king-pin type front suspension appears tight and all fittings take grease ok. The rear springs could use new rubber bushings and the shocks should probably be replaced. The P235/75 R15 radial tires make for a huge improvement over the originals in ride and handling. The brake shoes and wheel cylinders are new, along with front flex-hoses and grease seals.

This is an ideal car for a classic Cadillac enthusiast. It is unmistakably a Cadillac with a massive grille, bullet bumpers and 8-foot rear fenders with tailfins. It is not a show car but is presentable and drivable as-is. It is relatively easy to work on, and an original GM Shop manual is included. It is solid enough to be worth restoring further to any degree that the owner desires. With Cadillac convertible values skyrocketing, a hardtop makes a nice alternative at about one-fourth the price!

Automatic transmission. 8 cylinders. Exterior color, red. Power windows.
